Case Study: Automated Swing Door Operators for Cycle-Friendly Office Development
Client Objective
The client’s vision for this project was to actively encourage sustainable commuting by making cycling to work a convenient and attractive option for building users. A key part of this initiative was the creation of a dedicated route from the side entrance of the building through to a secure basement cycle store, ensuring cyclists could safely store their bikes upon arrival.
Project Challenge
To make this route truly effective, the client identified that ease of access would be critical. Cyclists often approach entrances carrying bags or manoeuvring their bikes, so any physical barriers—such as heavy manual doors could discourage use.
The challenge was therefore to ensure that every door along the designated route provided a seamless, accessible experience, supporting both convenience and compliance with accessibility standards.
Solution
Franchi Automation was engaged to design and implement a tailored solution using automatic swing door operators across all key access points along the route.
Each door was carefully assessed and equipped with reliable automation systems, ensuring smooth and consistent operation. The solution focused on:
• Hands-free access, allowing cyclists to move through the building without needing to manually operate doors
• Improved accessibility, supporting all users including those with mobility constraints
• Safe and controlled movement, ensuring doors operate efficiently within a busy environment
• Integration with the building layout, maintaining the intended flow from entry point to cycle storage
Activation methods were selected to suit the building’s usage, ensuring intuitive operation while maintaining security and control.
